Southshore is an ocean-front village of some 43 beachside condominiums and 87 Cape Cod style dwellings. The Beach Home Condominiums are located along Southshore's western perimeter just south of South Beach State Park and Newport, Oregon, aka "the Dungeness Crab Capital of the World.” Newport is also home to the nationally accredited Oregon Coast Aquarium, the Hatfield Marine Science Center, the recently completed Newport Aquatics Center, the 60+ Activity Center, and the Newport Municipal Airport (ORS) which has a Instrument Landing System (ILS) and a rotor-wing base for the Life Flight Network ambulance service serving the Oregon Coast. In town you’ll also find the NOAA Marine Operations Center-Pacific; the U.S. Coast Guard; a sizable fishing fleet; the Yaquina Bay, Nye Beach, and Deco shopping and restaurant districts; the Newport Performing Arts Center; and an eclectic arts and music culture.
